Applications

Where it is used

01

Utility PV plants

Large plants depend on long cable runs, collection switchgear and step-up transformers. Balance-of-system choices set a large share of losses and long-term reliability. We can supply matched packages to the EPC’s single-line diagram and cable schedule, with manufacturer type-test certificates available on request for owner’s engineer and utility review.

02

Battery storage integration

BESS projects need transformers and switchgear sized for bidirectional power flow, plus protection that covers both charging and discharging. Inverter-duty transformers handle PCS harmonics. The SCADA or energy management system coordinates the battery, the PV and the grid connection point.

03

C&I rooftop upgrades

Commercial rooftop systems connect to existing LV boards, so the switchboard, protection and cabling must match what is already installed. Combiner boxes with surge protection shield inverters from lightning-induced surges. Monitoring gives facility managers live yield data and alerts on string faults.

04

Performance monitoring and O&M

Accurate irradiance and soiling data separate genuine faults from dust or weather. A weather station with calibrated pyranometers lets you calculate performance ratio correctly and time cleaning cycles. SCADA data also supports warranty claims and lender reporting over the plant’s lifetime.

FAQ

Balance of System questions

Why does solar need special DC cable?
PV string cables carry direct current at up to 1.5 kV and sit in full sun for decades. Cables to EN 50618 or IEC 62930 are designed for that duty. They resist UV, ozone and high conductor temperatures, and they are double insulated. Standard building wire is not rated for this and will degrade faster.
What should I check on a transformer for PV or BESS?
Confirm the rating at your site’s ambient temperature, the vector group and tap range required by the utility, and suitability for inverter harmonics. For BESS, confirm it handles reverse power flow. Ask for type-test reports to IEC 60076, and check that the cooling class works in 50 °C summers.
Do combiner boxes need surge protection?
In most cases, yes. Long DC cable runs pick up surges from nearby lightning, and surge protective devices to IEC 61643-31 protect inverters and modules. The need and type depend on the lightning risk assessment and the cable lengths. Your designer should confirm this, and the combiner box can then include the appropriate SPDs.
What monitoring level does a plant need?
IEC 61724-1 defines monitoring classes. Class A, with high-accuracy sensors, suits utility plants and lender reporting, while simpler classes suit smaller rooftops. At minimum, measure plane-of-array irradiance, module temperature and inverter output. In dusty regions, a soiling station helps you plan cleaning based on measured losses.
